After reading many articles, I decided to use How to Keep The Shirt Waist Down. It was published in the San Francisco Call. in March 1907. In summary, it details the ways to use the safety pin without it showing as to look tidy for potential suitors. I chose this article because I am interested in how fashion and clothing play into Power structures, especially in regards to female agency. I thought this article is helpful in showing the consistency of society making judgements about a woman's character based on the time she could spend on her appearance. Also, it shows that this pressure on women to appear that they just woke up looking flawless, with no visible sign of effort, is nothing new. Before the Bra Strap debate there was the safety pin showing issue.
