For my blog post this week I am choosing to focus on the book "The spirit Catches You and you Fall down. I read it for my medical anthropology class and I liked it a lot because it shows what happens when two cultures collide. In this case the Hmong culture is clashing with American culture. I like it because it is interesting to see how people diagnose medical issues that happen to them. The child that the ethnography is written on (leia) is a Hmong child and her family believes that her epilepsy was caused by her sister scaring her spirit out of her. I just think it is fascinating to see how others interpret medical issues without the lens of the western world and then how American doctors deal (or don't deal) with these interpretations.
