Responses to Sally Mann's nude photograph of her children

This is a newspaper page from a Nov 1992 issue of the New York Times with Letters to the Editor in response to an article on Sally Mann's photography and her use of her own children depicted nude in them. I think it is fascinating because it shows the varied degrees to the immediate response viewers have to these photographs at the time of their release, without as much social context that viewers now have in seeing them. By the time I became familiar with Sally Mann's work, I already knew she was a highly regarded photographer, and that changes the reaction one has to her images. The reactions range from seeing the images as exploitive, disturbing, or a pure display of innocence.
